Los Angeles-based artist Amanda Oleander understands all too well that love is in the little, everyday moments that occur when no one else is watching. It’s something she experiences in her own relationship — and captures perfectly in her illustrations featuring people in long-term relationships.
“I’m enthralled by the way people behave behind closed doors, intimate moments we never get to see,” she explained. “Those are moments that can’t really be documented because if they were, it would alter the way the person behaved. So I draw them.”
Oleander says she draws inspiration from people close to her and the interactions she has with her partner. “[He] ends up drawn in most of my drawings,” she told Bored Panda. “We have been together for almost 3 years. He’s the sweetest man I’ve ever met.”
The artist likens their bond to something magical. “Before I met Joey if anyone told me their love and relationship was like ours I wouldn’t believe it. It’s nothing less than amazing. We can’t get enough of each other.”
As for her drawings, she hopes they’ll inspire others to appreciate the little things in life, as well as in their own relationships. “I do wish that viewers take with them a sense of confidence and appreciation for the simple moments in life.”
