Using proper etiquette does not mean you are stuffy or old-fashioned.

To me, having manners means you are a respectful person and considerate of others. If we choose to do away with these good manners, our societies will be filled with so much disrespect for one another, insults, cheating, and many more ill manners.

#1: Timing is very important.

Be punctual for all meetings, dates, get-togethers—everything. Just thoughtfully and meaningfully plan ahead.

#2: If someone offends you, you shouldn’t return the favor or raise your voice to the person who insulted you. Don’t sink to their level. Just smile and leave the ill-mannered company.

#3: If you’re walking along with someone and your companion greets a person you don’t know, you should also greet them.

#4: A man should never touch a woman without her permission. This means that it is unacceptable to: hold her hand, touch her during a conversation, and push her or take her hand above the elbow (unless a man is helping her to get into or out of a car, or cross the street).

#5: Don’t push your diet(s) on others. Talking about it is fine, but only when it’s truly passive and non-assertive.

#6: If you’re forgiven after you’ve apologized, don’t touch the offensive subject again just to say you’re sorry. You should try to avoid such mistakes in the future.

#7: The golden rule when using perfume is moderation.

If you can still smell your perfume in the evening, everyone else is already tired of it.

#8: A man should always walk on a woman’s left-hand side.

Military men are the only exception, because they should be ready to salute.

#9: Always make sure you’re the only person who can hear the music coming out of your earphones or headphones.

#10: Never ask people to bring food when you’re organizing a party or a get-together.

#11: Don’t try to chase fashion. It’s better to wear nice, even if not fashionable things than look awful in a brand-new suit.

#12: Don’t try to force people to watch, read, or do the same things you do. Again, talking about them is fine, but don’t be too pushy or assertive.

#13: Don’t be the person who always laughs or talks too loud.

#14: Always split the bill equally when dining out (or at least genuinely offer to).

#15: Don’t crash a party with an uninvited guest(s).

#16: Always hold doors open when there’s someone right behind you.

#17: Don’t text or check Twitter while you’re part of a “dinner party.”

#18: Always quietly sit in the back if you cannot help being late for a class, a meeting, or an event.

#19: Be courteous of other humans beings—and even more courteous of those human beings who are less fortunate that yourself.

#20: Offer to wait for the next elevator if you make it on but there’s no room for someone else.

#21: Don’t rush for the exists after a movie ends or after the door on a bus opens. Just relax, and exit when it’s most convenient for you and everyone else in the room or cabin.

#22: Don’t push food or drinks on people when you know they’re on a diet (or if they tell you they’re on a diet).

#23: Don’t interrupt people when they’re talking. It sounds a little like advice you’d get from your grandparents, but, like most of their advice, it’s invaluable.

#24: Place knife and fork as shown below to let others know whether your meal is finished or if you are waiting for dessert.

#25: Don’t take-up more than one seat when you travel on planes, trains, or buses.
