We all know that expensive products aren’t always better than the cheaper ones. For example, when we buy high-end beauty products, we pay not only for the ingredients but for the brand as well. However, we can easily find effective alternatives with the same ingredients in a drug store. And the results may be much better in comparison with expensive creams.

Bright Side had a look at drugstore cosmetic products and made its own list of the most effective ones you can use when you’re on a budget.

9. Spongilla

Spongilla is a freshwater sponge that is often used as a remedy for bruises. It prevents swelling, improves microcirculation, and provides the effect of a lymphatic drainage massage. Thanks to small needles, it also exfoliates the skin.

Due to its unique properties, spongilla is widely used in cosmetology. It helps get rid of scars, pigmentation, and clean the pores. However, you should be careful when using spongilla powder as it may be too aggressive for your skin. To check the reaction of your skin, it’s better to use it in a gel form for the first time.

8. Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is an ingredient in many beauty products that clean, moisturize, and nourish the skin.

Additionally, salicylic acid is a perfect exfoliant. It removes dead skin cells and moisturizes the upper layers of the epidermis, preventing ingrown hairs. It also helps get rid of this problem — just apply salicylic acid to the affected area with a cotton ball. Repeat the procedure a week before hair removal to get rid of ingrown hairs, and a week after to prevent them from happening.

7. Salicylic-zinc paste

Salicylic-zinc paste is one of best remedies for pimples. Its main component, zinc oxide, is widely used to reduce inflammation, relieve acne symptoms, and protect the skin from sun rays. Thanks to these beneficial properties many cosmetic products, even ones for children, contain zinc.

Try this method at home: when you notice that a pimple is about to appear, apply this paste to the area. It’ll help prevent its appearance at an early stage. The main advantage of this paste (aside from its price) — is its firm structure and white color. So you can use it under a makeup and it’ll cover uneven skin texture and redness.

6. Chlorhexidine

This well-known antibacterial solution can be used not only for sterilization but also as a deodorant since chlorhexidine is one of the main ingredients in deodorants. The unpleasant smell appears when you sweat because bacteria use sweat as food.

Apply chlorhexidine to your armpits after a shower with a cotton ball. This remedy will also help get rid of bad foot odor.

5. Laminaria

Laminaria is the same as sea cabbage or seaweed and it’s a well-known fact that it is one of the main components of most anticellulite body wraps. This procedure improves skin elasticity and promotes general health and you can even do it at home.

Use gauze or plastic wrap to secure the laminaria to the skin and put a warm blanket on the top for better results.

4. Alpha-lipoic acid

Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant that is used to eliminate the consequences of intoxication. This remedy is popular in cosmetology thanks to its ability to prevent sugar accumulation on the collagen fibers that prevent the appearance of the wrinkles.

Use it as a serum before you apply your night cream 2-3 times a week.

3. Arnica

This homeopathic paste helps eliminate bruises. In cosmetology, the flowers of Arnica montana are added to skin care products, shampoos, and hair conditioners. This paste improves blood circulation and lymph flow and has anti-endemic, regenerating, and soothing properties.

Arnica helps nourish the skin, get rid of dryness, and stave off first wrinkles.

2. Aspirin

Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) is used to thin the blood. This property helps improve blood flow to the upper layers of epidermis that improve skin nutrition and provide it with vital vitamins and minerals.

There are many home remedies that contain aspirin. For example, mix 1 aspirin pill with 1 tbsp sour cream. Apply this mask to clean skin for 15 minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water. Remember that you should use aspirin pills without any additives.

1. Enterosgel

This medication is used to get rid of intoxication. Thanks to its cellular structure, Enterosgel acts as an absorbent soaking up elements that weren’t metabolized.

Enterosgel can help hide the signs of a lack of sleep. To wake up fresh-faced, apply a thin layer of Enterosgel under your eyes before going to bed.
