We used to joke to some of our friends that if they sing, they might cause rain. Obviously, there’s no scientific basis about it. It’s just our way of annoying our pals who are not good at singing. However, it seems like nature has really its own way of interrupting people who love to sing. This time, neither the sky grew black nor the heavy rain poured out. Instead, a sudden and strong earthquake occurred while these three girls were having a great time at a certain karaoke hub in Davao City.
In the video uploaded by a certain Jessa Bacalso on Facebook, she and her two other friends are seen singing Tootsie Guevarra‘s iconic OPM song “Nang Dahil sa Pag-ibig.” It appears like it was just another normal Saturday afternoon for them. Not until one of the girls felt that the building was shaking tremendously. Terrified, she repeatedly screamed: “linog! linog ni!” (earthquake in Bisaya).
The next thing that happened, the girls immediately stood up, fled the room, and ran for their lives. Other people are also heard screaming inside the establishment.
Although the reactions of the girls in the video look funny for some. It would be better if we should not poke fun out of it. Apparently, it was an actual footage of how the Davaoeños panicked when the magnitude-6.4 quake struck Davao Oriental yesterday afternoon, September 8.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the tectonic quake occurred at 3:16 p.m. and has a depth of 13 kilometers. Among the damages reported was a building at the Ateneo de Davao University.
