Chris Norton had suffered a spinal chord injury back when he was 18 years old, while playing football for Luther College. Due to the injury, he was paralyzed from the neck down and, according to his doctors, with a 3% chance of walking again.

However, recently, although he had been in a wheel chair for the past seven years, Norton surprised everyone as he walked down the aisle at his own wedding, after years of physical therapy and training, as well as help from his girlfriend.

Chris walked seven yards down the aisle alongside his bride, Emily Summers-Norton.

Norton spoke on ‘Good Morning America’, saying:

It was unbelievable because I was doing it with Emily. Emily is the love of my life — She’s Wonder Woman without the cape. We did it together as a team and as a couple and to know that I’m going to have her by my side forever and that we’re going to take those next steps as married in love, it was just unbelievable.

The pair previously went viral back in the year 2015, with a video of him walking with Summer’s assistance across the graduation stage. They appeared in GMA at that time, and he claimed that he wanted to ‘defeat the odds’. He said:

I want to walk at our wedding.

During the recent interview, he said he put his trust in God, as well as revealed his motto, saying:

Your future will take care of itself when you take care of today and that was my mindset, that was my motto.

His bride, Emily, claims seeing him walk was ‘such an incredible moment’, saying:

You have to sacrifice, you have to work really hard and follow God’s plan and so it was such an incredible moment.

The co-director of the Neurosurgery Spine Program at Mount Sinai in New York City, Dr. Arthur L. Jenkins III, talked about the situation, admitting they only get ‘one-third or one-fourth of patients to his level of function’. He told ABC News:

We are still only getting one-third or one-fourth of patients to his level of function and you don’t get there without determination and work, with people who have the passion to get where he’s gotten.
