Ever felt the need to toss out your bras and be rid of those blood clotting strap-ons? Well, now you’ll be happy to know that scientists, in fact, urge ladies to follow through!
Society has always been the one to set norms for young women to follow, whether they are reasonable or not. From television to advertising, teenage girls are urged to wear bras when their breasts start to develop. If you don’t find yourself wearing one, there’s always someone to tell you that you must, so that your breasts don’t sag when you age.
A new study has linked wearing bras all the time can increase the chances of developing malignant breast cancer. Even chances of attaining non-malignant breast fibrocystic disease are possible, according to the study. Scientist Dr. Gregory Heigh explained this theory by identifying 90 percent improvement in their fibrocystic breast disease when women ditched the clothing.
A connection was made in his study where lymph damage was observed due to excessive wearing of bras – another reason for women to get rid of these problematic undergarments.
Based on another French study suggests that women needed to ditch the bras since they do not benefit the health in any way and neither does it help the breasts defy gravity.
Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, a sports medicine specialist from Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Besancon in Besancon, France, explained that wearing bras could be the primary cause of sagging breasts rather than not wearing them, contradictory to popular belief.
Talking to France info, Rouillon explains, “Our first results confirm the hypothesis that the bra is a false need. Medically, physiologically, anatomically, the breast does not benefit from being deprived of gravity. Instead, it languishes with a bra.”
The 15-year study was conducted on 330 volunteers aged between 18 and 35. Their breasts were measured by researchers using a caliper and slide ruler, where the changes were recorded during the study period.
The conclusion of the study was that wearing a bra actually prevented the growth of breast tissue, which was the factor in the deterioration of breast muscles that leads it to sagging. Not wearing a bra gives the breast muscles a workout, findings suggested.
Now there is more evidence of not wearing bras cropping up, that’s beneficial for the anatomy of a woman. The same French study observed a 7-millimeter lift from nipples in women every year conducted in studies.
However, the reactions gained have been mixed and not everyone should consider ditching their bras. Some experts have mentioned their benefit while others require more evidence to back up the theory. Rouillon believes bras are necessary but says that a 45-year-old mother who’s worn the undergarment all her life may not see the benefits if she decides to toss them.
But hey, science has now given you a reason to ditch your bra and let your body breathe. And we all know the relief of being able to take the bra off once we get home after a long day at work! With studies suggesting bras might actually be causing more damage than expected is only more the reason to get rid of them.
